After 23 years of marriage, two children, and eight stepchildren, Kris and Caitlyn Jenner can’t even put on a front for the kids anymore.
After their divorce in 2015, Kris and Caitlyn initially said they would remain “the best of friends” because of their loving dynamic, as well as for the sake of their two daughters Kendall, 21, and Kylie, 19. And for a while, the pair kept their promise of friendship.
In fact, even through Caitlyn’s transition, Kris seemed to present a united front with the family, asserting that despite needing time to adjust, she supported Caitlyn.
However, in April, everything changed.
Caitlyn penned her memoir, “The Secrets of My Life,” and gifted Kris with an advanced copy; suffice it to say Kris was enraged by the book’s contents.
In a conversation with daughters Kim and Khloe on their hit reality show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Kris said that out of her 23-year relationship with Caitlyn (Bruce at the time), Caitlyn only wrote one flattering remark:
“I read it and basically the only nice thing she had to say was that I was great socially at a party one time.”
It wasn’t long before the dynamic between their entire family was turned upside down. Even biological daughter, Kendall, couldn’t believe the things her father had written about the family, especially the Kardashian sisters.
While speaking to Kris on KUWTK, Kendall called Caitlyn’s memoir “insane,” saying:
“She goes around dissing the Kardashians, but those are the kids that you raised. If you have a problem with them, you raised them! That makes no sense to me.”
But clearly, Kendall, as well as Kris and Caitlyn’s other daughter Kylie, isn’t letting the explosive book get in the way of their father-daughter relationship.
On Father’s Day, the three were seen spending time together at a Beverly Hills car show.
And although Kris and Caitlyn’s initial post-divorce goal was to remain a cohesive team for their daughters, Kris was reportedly “not thrilled” about the Father’s Day hangout.
A source told People:
“It’s a very complicated situation for the girls. Kendall and Kylie just won’t speak with Kris about it. Caitlyn is their dad, but they also don’t want Kris to be upset so they just won’t talk about it.”
However, the source added that Kendall and Kylie have been “great” at dealing with the tension — something that Kim might agree with.
In May, Kim appeared on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” and said there was a “zero percent” chance Kris and Caitlyn ever speaking again. But she quickly revised her answer, saying:
“No, one. No, I would say two percent. And those are Kendall and Kylie. That’s their percentage. All fair, I think.”
Caitlyn appeared to backpedal her aggression towards Kris after seeing the kids’ reactions, but the damage has clearly been done in Kris’s eyes.
