Nearly a year after former sixth-grade teacher Brittany Zamora was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing one of her 13-year-old students, body cam footage of her March 2018 arrest is being made public.

According to 12 News, much of the footage is of Zamora asking about her rights during the arrest.

She’s seen taking off her wedding ring before asking if she’ll get it back. She also asks if she has the right to an attorney and if she’ll have the chance to explain what happened.

As the 28-year-old former teacher was led into the police station, Zamora asked one of the officers if she could put her hair down in order to cover her face so that they slew of media cameras waiting to capture her couldn’t get her face on camera:

Officer: “You’ll be fine, okay?”

Zamora: “Can you put my hair in front of my face?”

Officer: “We have to go in the door by them, okay?”

While in the interrogation room with a detective, who offered her the chance to share her side of the story and access to a lawyer, Zamora voiced her concerns about jail.

Zamora told the detective:

“I’m little. They’re going to tear me apart.”

And the detective’s interview with the parents of the 13-year-old boy reportedly abused by Zamora was also released:

Dad: “His childhood is already gone. He’s 13.”

As 12 News reports, Zamora began “grooming” the 13-year-old in an online chat room before the relationship turned physical.

One of their several meetups even occurred on the campus of the school where Zamora worked and the teen student attended.

The chat room is how the 13-year-old’s parents discovered who their child was talking with online as the mom explained to detectives:

“I saw at the bottom that it had ‘Mrs. Zamora.’ […] My husband just told him, ‘Have you done anything with your teacher? Did you have sex with your teacher?’ He said, ‘Yes.'”

You can watch more of the boy’s parents’ interview below:

Footage also reveals police officers talking with Zamora’s husband, although officers weren’t able to go into detail regard what Zamora had told them or what they knew at the time.

The former teacher’s husband is also heard calling his wife “the best, best person I’ve ever known.”

As 12 News previously reported, the principal of Las Brisas Academy Tim Dickey was allegedly made aware of “issues” between Zamora and the 13-year-old when three female students wrote letters to Dickey explaining what those issues were.

Dickey told detectives it was a mistake he made talking only one of three students who sent him letters.

Zamora has since pleaded not guilty to the charges against her which include 10 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of molestation, two counts of furnishing sexually explicit material to a minor and one count public sexual indecency.

It makes my blood boil when I read about all these teachers who are grooming and sexually assaulting our children. These are sick predators. We had them too when I went to school in the 60s so it isn’t anything new. When a teacher takes an interest in your child pay very close attention.

I get that it’s wrong and upsetting but I mean honestly if this would have happened to me I wouldn’t have been upset by it hell it would be something you want to brag about to your friends, but if you’re smart enough and want it to keep going you keep it to yourself. From what I can gather at no point did this woman force him to do anything he committed sexual acts with her of his own free will. She should be in trouble for abusing her position as a teacher but unless the boy says he was forced in some manner I don’t see the issue here. I at 14 was already having sex with girls my age and older that’s pretty common with boys and teens in general. Basically this kid pushed any and all blame and possible punishment entirely on this woman who admittedly made a very stupid decision but wasn’t he also a willing particiapant in what they did shouldn’t he be punished in some manner she didn’t mind control the kid or drug him and tie him up or something he of his own free will made a choice he also knew wasn’t the correct one he’s no victim.

I grew up with four brothers and I heard about their escapades much to our parents shock. This child is below the legal age of legal consent for sexual activity with an adult, so the fact that the boy might have been a willing participant does not make the crime less culpable. It can cause lasting damage to students. It affects the way the student looks at him or herself and the way they looked at authority figures and the way they handle intimacy later on. Sometimes they realize this only when they get older and have children of their own.

I was a classroom teacher for 20 years and if a child asked to go to the restroom during direct instruction, I would ask if they could hold it until I was finished. If they said no, I let them go to the restroom. Going to the restroom is not a privilege. It is a basic human right. This story makes me very sad. These are babies we are talking about. They are not mini adults.
