It’s been nearly a year since Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan, tragically lost their 19-month-old.

Their daughter, Emmy Kay, passed away on June 10 after falling into a neighbor’s pool. Now, Morgan is sharing a warning with parents.

In a new video created with HealthyChildren.org, an organization by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Morgan opened up about the loss of her child.

Through tears, the mom said:

“Time is not on our side when it comes to water. And even though my daughter was resuscitated, there was too much damage to her brain for her to survive. It takes seconds… I would ask yourself as a parent, ‘What have I done to make my child safe around water?'”

Morgan appeared in the video alongside Nicole Hughes, a mom who lost her son to drowning on the same day Emmy Kay passed away.

Together, they wanted to warn parents of drowning risks ahead of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. The caption for the video reads, in part:

Almost one year ago, on June 10th, @nicolehughes8 and I became accidental advocates for water safety when we both endured a parent’s worst nightmare…we lost our babies to drowning…

With a holiday weekend quickly approaching, be vigilant, be aware and be a voice to spread awareness. Do not rely on the visual stimulation of water to trigger your awareness.

Almost one year ago, on June 10th, @nicolehughes8 and I became accidental advocates for water safety when we both endured a parent’s worst nightmare…we lost our babies to drowning. Since then, we have partnered with the aap @healthychildrenaap along with many other incredible organizations to eliminate this preventable tragedy. In an effort to protect parents hearts and families futures from enduring one of life’s unthinkable events, we continue to spread awareness. Did you know that drowning is the NUMBER ONE cause of death for children under 5? Did you know that most drownings happen during non swim times when you think your baby is playing on the family room floor? With a holiday weekend quickly approaching, be vigilant, be aware and be a voice to spread awareness. Do not rely on the visual stimulation of water to trigger your awareness. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend! #Drowning #DrowningPrevention #WaterSafety #PoolSafety #HealthyChildren #Parents #Parenthood #Parenting #InstaParenting #ParentingTips #baby #babies #child #children #kids #toddler #toddlers #MemorialDay #HolidayWeekend

Morgan welcomed a baby boy just months after losing Emmy Kay, Dearly reported. Bode said on “Today” that their new son helped them heal during a heartbreaking time:

“If there’s one thing that can kind of help to heal and fill that spot in your heart, it’s a baby. And he’s a special one. Besides the lack of sleep, it’s been a really nice process to be able to go through.”

Though the family went through a tragedy, it seems they are working to spread a message of safety so that other families hopefully don’t have to.
