On Tuesday, President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and their 11-year-old son, Barron Trump, took part in their first “turkey pardoning” as the first family.
With his son flanking his right and his wife flanking his left, President Trump kicked off the odd tradition with a joke about how he’s a “nicer” president than Harry Truman — who began the tradition — because he planned to pardon the bird, unlike Truman.
While Trump was giving a speech that embodied the lightheartedness of the tradition, Barron, in typical preteen fashion, did his best to not crack up.
Barron cracked his first smile following his dad’s Truman joke:
He cracked another grin following the president admitting the White House has hosted many world leaders, members of Congress, and “a few very strange birds”:
And again upon his dad introducing “Drumstick the Turkey”:

It’s safe to say Barron got a kick out of his first Turkey pardoning, as did most of America.
