Former President Barack Obama tried out a new gig in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
He put on a Santa hat, grabbed a giant red sack full of toys, and made his way down the hallway of Children’s National Hospital singing, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
In a video posted by the hospital on Twitter, the 44th President of the United States stopped by the medical facility to surprise patients and their families.

As KITV reports, Obama Claus greeted children in their hospital rooms with a hearty “Ho Ho Ho … Merry Christmas!”
The former president added:
“My reindeer they were stuck in some snow, but I just wanted to make sure that I made the trip and I had a chance to see all of you guys.”
During the visit, the stand-in Santa handed out gifts, gave hugs, and even broke his “no selfie” rule to pose with bedridden patients.

Who said the Grinch stole Christmas?! Our patients and their families received a HUGE holiday surprise when @barackobama warmed our hallways with a huge bag of gifts for our patients! Thank you so much for visiting! ?#SWIPELEFT to see more! #Holidaysatchildrens #ObamaAndKids #ObamaClaus
After spreading the holiday cheer by putting “smiles on everyone’s faces,” wrote the hospital on Twitter, Obama stopped to thank the hospital staff. He said:
“We had a chance to talk to some of the wonderful kids and their families at a time that is obviously tough to folks.
As a dad of two girls, I can only imagine in that situation to have nurses and staff and doctors and people who are caring for them and looking after them and listening to them and just there for them and holding their hand, that is the most important thing there is.
What a great reminder of what the holiday spirit is supposed to be all about.”
There’s no better time than the holidays to give back to your community. Yesterday I got to do just that at @ChildrensHealth. As we celebrate the season and look forward to 2019, let’s recommit to doing our part to build a world that is a little more generous, tolerant, and kind. https://t.co/77rcNoY8jn

During his presidency, he and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, visited Children’s National every year during the holidays.
As reported by IJR, First Lady Melania Trump also stopped by on December 13 to read Christmas stories to some of the children.
