New Jersey mom Melissa Dawson was at home alone on Thursday when her water broke.
After spending 43 hours in labor with her first child, she never expected it’d take just minutes with her second, the 32-year-old told WABC.
Dawson’s husband, Gregg Dawson, was out running errands with their 2-year-old when he got a frantic call from his wife.
He told CBS New York:
“She’s like, you need to get here right now.”
But there just wasn’t enough time. Melissa almost immediately started to give birth to her baby girl on the bedroom floor. The mom said:
“You have no control over your body. The baby is going to come in, there’s nothing you can do about it.”
“It was the most panic-driven experience I’ve ever had.”
A baby monitor in her child’s room captured her screams as felt three rounds of sharp pain. It only took about a minute before her daughter arrived.
Melissa told CBS New York:
“She literally bungee jumped out of me, lands on the floor.”
The mom was in shock but said she took a selfie with the newborn because she didn’t think anyone would believe “the mother of all childbirth stories.”
First responders arrived about 15 minutes later to help Melissa and her newborn after her husband called them.
Gregg arrived soon after and was amazed by his wife. He said:
“She’s stronger than I could have ever imagined, this whole experience taught me to love, respect and cherish my wife, so it’s beautiful.”
Melissa and their baby, Bria Belle, were taken the hospital where they remained for two days.
Thankfully, both mom and baby are healthy and back at home. She told CBS New York:
“I still can’t believe it happened to me.”
