A Florida mother said she’s happy to give birth to a healthy baby boy after a gas station delivery over the weekend, despite doctors telling her to go home earlier that day.
My Panhandle reports, Brittany Holmes, who was 9 months pregnant and just a few days shy of her due date, knew she wouldn’t make it in time to the hospital and realized she had to give birth to her son on the side of the road.
Thankfully, a local fire department arrived in time to help with the delivery.
Holmes said on March 30, thinking she was ready to deliver, she had doctors examine her but she was told her labor pains were a false alarm.
However, the mom certainly should have stayed in the hospital a little longer because baby Hagen was on the way.
“You read about people having their babies but, you never think that you’re going to be the one, to not make it to the hospital.”
“I knew he was coming. I didn’t think it would be that fast.”
At around 2:42 a.m. Holmes’ mother called first responders to help deliver the baby at an Exxon in Freeport. WJHG reports, with only minutes to spare, things started happening fast and her baby boy wasn’t waiting any longer.
Walton County Fire Rescue, District Chief Austin Pugh told the news outlet:
“I realized we weren’t going to have time to get the mother to a local hospital. So, I made sure she was comfortable and got ready.”
“I’m so glad we were all there to help. These are the calls you want to take home with you. The calls you will never forget. It was an unforgettable moment for all of us who were on scene.”
The mother of three girls was actively delivering when paramedics and the fire department arrived on the scene.
Holmes told My Panhandle, she and her husband had always wanted a little boy and “that’s why he had to come out with a bang.”
