Television icon Ellen DeGeneres doesn’t kid around when it comes guests on her popular daytime talk show.
The “Ellen DeGeneres Show” host recently banned reality star, Caitlyn Jenner, from appearing on the program after she made controversial statements about Ellen in her latest memoir, “The Secrets of My Life.”
And now, one of the show’s audience members is in the hot seat after a clip of Ellen publicly shaming her went viral, according to Buzzfeed.
It started when Ellen decided to secretly tape her audience members for a humorous segment on the show.Screenshot/YouTube
The talk show host set up a table with merchandise and offered to let guests take “one item only” — then waited to see who would actually follow the rules.
Ellen debuted her findings in front of the audience, and, for the most part, she said that the audience was respectful and followed the rules.
Then came Nancy…Screenshot/YouTube
The sneaky guest stopped by the table full of merchandise, not once, but twice, in order to grab up some goods.
And Ellen didn’t hesitate to call her out in front of the studio audience.
As they aired the footage, Nancy had to watch in humiliation as the rest of the audience laughed at her snatching up hats and mugs.Screenshot/Youtube
Then she had to face Ellen.
Before the talk show host even got a chance to call out the audience member, Nancy started to explain herself:
“My sister couldn’t come, so that was her souvenir.”
But Ellen didn’t have any time for excuses. She told Nancy:
“Yeah a lot of people’s sisters couldn’t come. … You’re the kind of person that when you go trick-or-treating and nobody’s home you just take the bowl away.”
Then Ellen revealed that she had a special punishment for the very embarrassed audience member. The host told Nancy:
“I’m sorry, that’s embarrassing and everything but let that be a lesson to you. You think nobody is watching you and you just need to be a good person, just because you want to be a good person. Go sit in that Ellen jail over there right now.”
A man then brought out a metal chair for Nancy to sit in on stage, which was placed in front of a fake jail cell.Screenshot/YouTube
Even though it seemed that Ellen was trying to teach a positive lesson with the hidden camera footage, many on social media called her public shaming “humiliating.”

Luckily, Nancy didn’t seem to take the embarrassing moment to heart. She laughed off Ellen’s comments and vowed never to steal again.
At the end of the day, it seems that Nancy has learned her lesson.
