During the final days of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Ivanka Trump cheered on Team USA before leading the delegation during the closing ceremony.

She documented her trip on social media:

One of the athletes did the same thing, hoping to promote a feeling of unity amongst her followers.

African American bobsledder and Olympic silver medalist, Lauren Gibbs, posted a selfie with both Trump and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders with a message that read:

It’s important to remember that we don’t have to agree on everything to get along, be civil to each other and enjoy each others company. #itsforamerica it was a pleasure to meet you both!

Unfortunately many of Gibbs’ followers missed the message she was trying to send and instead called her “complicit”:

There were also some who appreciated Gibbs message, saying that her message was exactly what the Olympics are all about. Some even called her a “class act.”

Trump didn’t respond directly to Gibbs message but posted a few pictures with the Olympian as well:

Despite the hate she received on Twitter, Gibbs walked with Team USA in the closing ceremonies with a big smile on her face.
