Television mogul Andy Cohen, 50, welcomed his very first child to the world on Monday.
The new dad confirmed on Instagram that his son, Benjamin Allen Cohen, was born healthy via surrogate and shared a photo with fans.
He captioned the image of his first little boy:
WOW! This is my son,
Benjamin Allen Cohen. He is
9 lbs 2 ounces !!
20 inches !! Born at 6:35 pm, PT
He is named after my grandfather Ben Allen. I’m in love. And speechless. And eternally grateful to an incredible surrogate. And I’m a dad. Wow.
On Friday, Cohen shared a photo of Benjamin snuggled up to his chest in a carrier. The television host appeared to be aboard a private jet.
Digging the #DadGear !!!
Many fans flooded the dad with well-wishes and congratulations, but some were quick to dad-shame the Bravo star.
Some Facebook users criticized Cohen for taking his baby aboard a plane when he was just a few days old. One commenter wrote:
I don’t agree with taking a 4 day old baby on a plane. As adults our ears can barely handle it. Wrong….
Wouldn’t be flying yet w just 4 day old newborn.
According to Mayo Clinic, air travel is safe for newborn babies, especially if you’re flying private and there’s no risk of germs from other ill passengers.
Changes in pressure may cause some pain for newborns, but it can be eased by giving them a bottle pacifier.
However, it’s recommended to avoid flying with newborns when possible.
Thankfully, some fans stepped in to defend the new dad. One commenter wrote:
I’m sure he has consulted and obtained approval of a pediatrician to travel with the baby.. Andy does not strike me as irresponsible.
Regardless of what critics say, it seems the excited new dad will do his best to care for the little one he’s wanted for so long.
