One month after River Kelly Smith’s passing, mom Amber Smith is remembering her 3-year-old son.

In an emotional Instagram post, Amber shared a handful of photos of River.

She said it was as she was scrolling through the photos on her phone that she realized something about the majority of the photos she has of the boy — they all have a light shining around his head.

The mom wrote:

I couldn’t sleep last night so I was going through photos of River. I noticed so many with this light around him that I never really took notice of before. We always used to ask him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He never said a fireman, or policeman or doctor. He always said, “when I get bigger I reach the light”. I know he probably meant the light switch, but it still makes me smile and still gives me a bit of hope. He’s definitely reaching the light now.

Amber continued:

One month. The hardest month of our lives. But we are here. One month closer to seeing him again.

As Dearly previously reported, River Kelly passed away after an accidental drowning incident on June 5.

Amber and her husband, country singer Granger Smith, made the decision to donate River’s organs “so that other children will be given a second chance at life.”

In a YouTube video shared by Granger, the father talked about the day his son passed away:

“River found a way to accomplish the impossible several times. How he got in there, we have some theories. But as far as the kids know, we are telling them that River was a smart kid and he figured out how to get into a child lock gate.

The other really important thing to talk about, and I know I’ll talk about this more in months and years to come, is how quiet this whole thing happened. It was silence. I was 15-feet from this gate which is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life.”

He said the entire incident happened in just 30 seconds.
