When 45-year-old Beth Clay was admitted to the emergency room with excruciating abdominal pain, she suspected she had kidney stones.
The mother of two was in disbelief that she was actually giving birth to her third child.
As KTLA reports, Clay had no idea she was pregnant. In fact, just days earlier the Venice, California, woman took her bicycle for a long ride along the boardwalk. The ride was part of Clay’s fitness regimen. As Clay explained, for the past nine months she had been working out daily and was on a strict diet. As a result, she was in “tip top” shape and had lost 15 pounds.
According to KTLA, Clay never went into labor with her first two children, now adults, delivering them via C-section. Doctors suspect Clay didn’t know she was pregnant this time because the baby was “hiding.”
As Clay explained to KTLA:
“The doctor feels sure that he was behind everything, behind my kidneys behind my liver.”
During pregnancy, a woman’s internal organs shift to accommodate a growing baby. Clay said she never felt the baby move or kick.

While Clay and her 51-year-old husband, Scott, were thrilled at the notion of becoming parents to a newborn again, there was still the fear that something could go wrong:
“Honestly I was scared to death he was going to be stillborn because with no movement or anything? Or no prenatal care?”
After delivery, the Clays’ baby was taken to intensive care for a few days but is reportedly healthy and thriving. Beth and Scott Clay waited one day before telling their family that they had just given birth to a baby. As Clay explained:
“The shock is just amazing”
“I was like, ‘That just can’t be real.’ It’s all contrived, never could happen. You would know if there was a baby in your belly, but we’re living proof.”
Welcome to the world, Liam Ryder Clay.
