The Springfield, Massachusetts, Police Department is asking for the public’s help finding a 23-year-old man who has been missing since January 13.
According to a lengthy update posted on the department’s official Facebook page, Achim Bailey was last seen leaving a bar called Samuel’s, which is located near the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Missing Person Update: The Springfield Police Department wanted to provide the public with an update on the search for…
Achim was spotted several times in footage from multiple surveillance cameras walking alone. However, the last time the cameras recorded Achim was near the Memorial Bridge.
The update continued:
Cameras then later spotted a person believed to be Mr. Bailey on the railroad tracks walking back towards the South End Bridge close to 3am. That is the last video we have of Mr. Bailey.
Mr. Bailey’s cell phone was pinged and it last registered at a tower near the South End Bridge.
There has also been no activity on credit or debit cards Achim owned since his last purchase at Samuel’s.
The Springfield police added:
More than a dozen officers from the Springfield Police Department along with Amtrak Police and MSP Air Wing spent hours searching for Mr. Bailey around the Hall of Fame area, the railroad tracks and river.
Officers and Detectives spent multiple days searching that area for Mr. Bailey without any results. Captain Duda and Major Crimes detectives searched from the Hall of Fame all the way past the South End Bridge on foot with no signs of Mr. Bailey.
The authorities then asked for the public’s help:
The investigation continues, but we have no further leads without the help from the public. If you have any information please contact Detective Lopez 413-750-2379 or our non-emergency number 413-787-6302.
Achim is described as being approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. It’s unclear exactly what the 23-year-old was wearing.
However, this is allegedly a photo of Achim on the night he went missing:
His mom, Dorothy, told Western Mass News:
“I can’t understand it. I just can’t understand it. Why would somebody do this to him?”
And his father, Hugh, said that when cameras captured his son leaving the bar, he was being escorted out.
He admitted that he doesn’t go to sleep until 7 a.m. believing that his son is still out there all alone:
“I don’t feel like I can go to sleep in the dark knowing my son is still out there.”
He continued that their searches for Achim have led to very little:
“We found nothing. No body, no clue, no clothes, you know nothing that indicated that he was here or something happened, so it’s kind of like a mystery if you ask me.”
Dorothy then made a public plea for her son’s safe returned, saying, “Wherever he is, we just need him back home safely. It’s all we want you to know so he can continue with his life all over again. We miss you, we’re just hoping you’ll come home soon.”
