Whoopi Goldberg Makes First ‘The View’ Appearance in a Month. She Almost Died of Pneumonia and Sepsis

The View

As many fans of “The View” have noticed, co-host Whoopi Goldberg has been missing from her usual seat at the table for the last month.

However, on Friday, Goldberg’s familiar face appeared on people’s television screens for the first time in weeks during the show.

In a pre-recorded video, the actress explained why she has been gone from the show for so long.

She began:

“Hey, yes, it’s me. I am here. I am up and moving around. Not as fast as I’d like to be, but I am okay. I’m not dead. So here’s what happened.

I had pneumonia and I was septic. Pneumonia in both longs, which meant there was fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn’t.”

Goldberg, who seemed in good spirits despite her health scare, continued by thanking her fans for all of their “good wishes” and “all of the wonderful things that people have been saying”:

“Even the people who are not huge fans of mine, have actually said nice things about me,” Goldberg joked. “We all know that’s going to change when I get back, but for right now, it’s brilliant. Thank you for everything.”

The 63-year-old concluded:

“And ladies I cannot wait to see Y’all. This has been interesting and I’ll tell you about it when we are all at the table.”

Goldberg then blew the world a kiss before saying, “See you soon.”

The rest of the ladies at the table went on to converse about what they miss most about Goldberg not being at the table with them.

According to the Mayo Clinic, pneumonia is an “infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, which then may fill with fluid or pus, causing a cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.”

As the Mayo Clinic reports, pneumonia can also cause sepsis, which is a “potentially life-threatening condition caused by the body’s response to an infection.”

After the video was posted to YouTube, others also left encouraging messages to Goldberg as she continues to get well.

One commenter wrote:

While another said, “Whoopi you are a blessing to the world!!! Take your time and get well as soon as it is best for you. We can wait as long as you return Healthy!!!”

  1. Wow I’m actually in hospital in Scotland having the exact same thing, except mine caused a heartattack too! Good to see Whoopi look so well, hope for me! X

  2. My husband got Sepsis from an infection he caught at work (a hospital). He had two heart attacks and two strokes that have left him with numb arms and continued TIA’s. He was misdiagnosed twice with the flu.

  3. God is good all the time, all the time God is good. Praise Him for your healing. Contnue on getting some rest so you can build your strength up. Amen

  4. You are such an amazing human being. I have loved everything you have done. Please take care, you are a treasure to behold, and I think you are an amazing person. Take care lady, we need you!

  5. Sepsis is what killed that illegal immigrant girl when her group of people were found wandering in the New Mexico desert. The border patrol was blamed but she was on death’s door when they found her.

  6. I am so glad you are much better I have missed you on The View. It’s just not the same without you there. I love the rest of the ladies also. But Whoopi Goldberg is the bomb.
