R&B singer R. Kelly displayed outrage over sex abuse accusations against him during his interview with CBS’ Gayle King, but it seems the host may have stolen the show.
The interview with the self-proclaimed “Pied Piper of R&B” and the “CBS This Morning” co-host aired Wednesday morning. It was Kelly’s first time speaking out since the airing of the Lifetime docu-series “Surviving R. Kelly” and being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
During the interview, King directly asked the singer:
“Have you ever had sex with anyone under the age of 17?”
Kelly, 52, quickly denied all rumors involving him ever having any sexual contact with underage girls. He went on to say that all of his accusers and those involved with the docu-series were all lying.
“… everybody says something bad about me. Nobody said nothin’ good. They was describing Lucifer. I’m not Lucifer. I’m a man. I make mistakes, but I’m not a devil, and by no means am I a monster. […] They are lying on me.”
As the interview went on, Kelly became visibly more emotional. King questioned if Kelly was holding anyone against their will. The singer broke into an emotional rant.
“I don’t need to. Why would I? How stupid would it be for R. Kelly, with all I’ve been through in my way, way past, to hold somebody, let alone four, five, six, 50, you said — how stupid would I be to do that?! […] Stop it. Y’all quit playing! Quit playing! I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my f**king life! Y’all killing me with this s**t! I gave you 30 years of my f**king career!”
During the rant, Kelly can be seen yelling into the camera as he stands up. King attempted to interject during the rant with the occasional “Robert,” only to be cut off by the singer.
As he continued yelling, Kelly forcefully began swinging his arm and hands in rage before being calmed down by his publicist. King remained calm.
The host shared photos from the interview on her Instagram, where viewers have begun commenting and praising her professionalism.

Hey girl hey, Ms. Gayle you looked at R. Kelly just like my mother use to look at me as a kid, she had me spilling all the tea on myself.😂 Ms. Gayle I am truly shocked that he just did not come out and confess all his sins to you in that wonderful interview. You handle yourself beautifully, thank you.❤

Gayle’s giving him the same face I’ve seen black mommas gives their toddlers during temper tantrums. I was just waiting for her to say, “Are you done yet?” https://t.co/awfA0dntv2
