Loyal “Wendy Williams Show” viewers know the talk show host has always been very candid about her lifelong battle with drug addiction, but some say she crossed the line when she compared her struggles to Luke Perry’s death.

After a two month hiatus, Williams ended Tuesday’s “Hot Topic” discussion with her take on Perry’s massive stroke, which resulted in his death just one week later.

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star was 52-years-old when he died, and Williams implied that he may have had drug issues. After questioning if Perry lived a “wild life” as a Hollywood heartthrob, she said:

“You know this about me. I told you I’ve had my bout with substance abuse. Once you’re a substance abuser, you have to battle that for the rest of your life… Crack is wack. I was a mess, killing myself. I realized I am a walking addict. You can’t just clean it up and stop it.”

The TV host continued:

“You never know when it can pop up. I constantly have to watch the inside of my body because of hard partying, just a mess.”

As previously reported by Dearly, there has been no talk of Perry’s health issues being related to drug or alcohol abuse.

People on Twitter slammed Williams for speculating on whether or not Perry’s stroke was linked to a lifestyle of wild partying.

One commenter wrote:

My husband died at the age of 41 from a massive heart attack. Never had a chest pain, wasn’t overweight (32 in. Waist), didn’t drink or do drugs! Prayers for Luke Perry’s family. Strokes and heart attacks can happen at any time!

According to the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), risk factors for stroke include high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes, however, “anyone can have a stroke at any age.”

  1. I was so disgusted by her comments that I had to turn my tv off. Who is she to make those kind of statements about a man who has just passed away, with no indication of having an addiction problem. She didn’t stop there though, she also made the statement she was going to investigate further to find out what kind of life he led, which is really not her business. If she wants to know, it seems from his career he was a pretty open book and from the out pouring of love and admiration, he was a good man and a good father. Wendy Williams is a vicious woman, who needs to be removed from tv.

  2. Comments like she made are terrible.
To many people lately are doing this. In every walks of life.
Hate and people not caring about only themselves is ruining this world.
She is nothing like Luke Perry.
She needs to apologize big time about her comments and worrie about herself.

  3. She needs to take more time off !!!! Just because she was messed up doesn’t mean he was. She needs to tend to her own business !!!
