Actress Jamie Lynn Spears and husband Jamie Watson were left praying for a miracle last year when Spears' daughter, 10-year-old Maddie, was in a serious ATV accident.
The little girl was underwater for at least two minutes when the ATV became submerged in a pond.
Maddie has recovered from her accident, but now fans are shaming the parents because they believe they put her in danger recently.
This week, Watson posted a photo of his 10-year-old stepdaughter holding a shotgun.
He captioned the image, “Getting her ready for dove season.”
Many Instagram users were quick to criticize the parents for letting the child hold a shotgun and kill animals, Yahoo Lifestyle reports.
One commenter called the parents “monsters” and another said “shame!!” In a now-deleted comment, one person said:
Put down the gun, pick up a pair of binoculars & take a hike together. For me, teaching kids to kill when there is absolutely no need seems very, very wrong.
Others pointed out that “guns are not toys.”
However, some Instagram users jumped to the parents defense, and said it's best to teach gun safety at an early age.
One fan wrote:
I am glad to see she's learning responsible gun care at her young age. My dad taught me too. Love it.
Residents of Louisiana must be at least 16 years old to obtain a hunting license, according to state law.
The parents, who recently welcomed a daughter, have not responded publicly to any of the criticism.
