The ongoing custody battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continues, nearly two years after their split.
Just hours after Pitt's legal team denied allegations that the actor is avoiding child support payments, Jolie fired back at her estranged husband.
Jolie's lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, said in a statement to US Weekly:
Angelina’s filing of yesterday was both legally appropriate and factually accurate in all respects.
What has been filed by Brad’s side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children.
Pitt's lawyer, Lance Spiegel, spoke out against allegations Jolie made about the actor not paying “meaningful child support” on Wednesday. According to his attorney the claims are manipulative, reports People.
Pitt's lawyer said the actor loaned Jolie $8 million to purchase her home and has paid over $1.3 million “in bills for the benefit of [Jolie] and the minor children.”
Jolie's lawyer claims the $1.3 million covered moving expenses after the couple split in 2016. DeJean said:
Following the incident of September 2016, Angelina and the children needed to move from the family home, which Brad chose to keep, including all of its contents. Brad was asked to assist in the expense of a new home for Angelina and the children, but instead he loaned Angelina money, for which he is charging her interest on a payment plan. Angelina will of course honor that loan.
A loan is not; however, child support and to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate.
As TMZ reports, Jolie filed court documents asking a judge to both finalize their divorce this year and force Pitt to pay child support, as well as make retroactive payments.
Jolie, 43, and Pitt, 54, share six kids together.
The “Magnificent” actress filed for divorce September 2016 citing irreconcilable differences. The custody dispute has been ongoing.
