Texas father Jean Pierre Ndossoka was in his apartment with his two children on Saturday when he decided to do the unthinkable.
The 62-year-old Houston resident, who is estranged from his wife, decided to kill 8-year-old Marcel and 1-year-old Anna-Belle, KHOU reports.
The father used a knife to slit their throats, telling police that his son's last words were, “Daddy, I'm sorry.”
While killing his son, he said the toddler “just kept crying.”
Ndossoka then called the children's mother and told her that the key to his apartment was under the front door mat, 14 News reports.
He said that he'd “left a present for her” inside.
The mother went to the apartment where she found the bodies of her children, along with a note that blamed her for their deaths.
The father said she should “carry the burden of our souls.”
Police found Ndossoka the following day in a suburb outside Houston. He had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head — but didn't die.
He is now hospitalized and in stable condition. When asked what happened, he told police that he “did something bad.”
Court documents read:
The defendant then admitted that he had done something to his children and when asked “What?” he motioned towards his neck.
Ndossoka was charged on two counts of capital murder, meaning he'll be eligible for the death penalty if found guilty.
The father's neighbors were shocked by the killings and couldn't understand why he would take his children's lives. A neighbor told 14 News:
“I have no idea. I have no clue. I'm pretty sure that's the question everybody wants to know, but I have no clue.”
Friends said he wasn't violent towards the children, but was verbally abusive towards his wife.
The father has not admitted his motive for killing Marcel and Anna-Belle.
