On April 16, actor John Stamos' biggest dream came true when he and his wife welcomed their first child, a son named Billy, into the world.
Stamos was always seen as America's favorite uncle thanks to his role as Uncle Jesse on the hit 90s sitcom, “Full House.”
Now, at 54 years old, Stamos is fully enjoying his role as a father in real life.
My first Father’s Day means that I don’t have to hand a kid back to the parents when someone yells cut. It means when people ask me if I'm a father, I don't have to use the goofy line, “No, but I play one on TV” My first Father’s Day means that from this day forward— I will start to look my age (and older) Most importantly, it means that for the rest of my life, I’ll always be known as someone’s dad. And that’s all I ever wanted. Happy Father’s day.
However, as he admitted to Entertainment Tonight, he has developed an irrational fear ever since becoming a dad. Stamos explained:
“I've been on TV with babies forever, but, and I'm not even making a joke out of this, I have a fear of handing the baby back like someone's gonna yell, 'Cut!' and they are going to take my kid away from me.”
He said the “great thing” about fatherhood is that “no one can take your child away.”
Stamos went on to say that becoming a father has changed his life. He also admitted that he and his wife, Caitlin McHugh, are trying for more children.
He said that being a father “is everything” to him and that it gives him life:
“I was with him all morning this morning and we just sat and played music. I don't know what I would have done without having a baby and a wife right now. I would have fizzled away into the sunset.”
Stamos said that he has been looking forward to this time in his life for a while now, but at one point he didn't think fatherhood was ever going to happen for him:
“I wanted it, but for some reason, I just thought I missed that boat or that I didn't do enough good in the world and it wasn't going to come to me. And I made a real decision to just really find someone that great… and I did, luckily. And we have a beautiful baby boy now. It's better than I ever imagined.”
Despite his child only being three months old, Stamos sees a lot of his wife's qualities in his son— which is exactly what he had hoped for.
He said Billy is very calm and rarely ever cries. Stamos, himself, has more of a hyper personality.
