Rebecca Lynn Stanley called Lincoln County, North Carolina police of June 11 and requested that an officer accompany her to pick up her eight-month-old daughter.

According to WSOC, Stanley hoped that with an officer by her side, she would be able to pick up her daughter “without incident.” However, the exchange that was supposed to take place between Stanley and the daughter's grandmother did not go over smoothly.

As WSOC reports, Shelley Lovin Heafner had been babysitting her granddaughter since Wednesday, June 6 while Stanley was at work. When Stanley called Heafner to say she was getting ready to come pick up her daughter, she also told Heafner that the girl's father would also be with her.

According to reports, the girl's father had recently been released from jail. The fact that he would be with Stanley when she came to get the girl reportedly did not sit well with Heafner.

She ultimately “refused” to give the girl back and allegedly took off with the child before the deputy or Stanley could arrive to the grandmother's house.

The baby girl is described as having blond hair and blue eyes. She reportedly weighs about 17 pounds and is two feet tall. WSOC also reports that she has a birthmark on her head near her neck.

According to WSOC, Heafner is 62 years old. She has been charged with one felony count of abduction of a child. Authorities believe Heafner may be driving a silver four door Chevrolet Impala with North Carolina license plate MZE-5355.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of either Heafner or the baby girl are asked to notify the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050, the Lincoln County Communications Center at (704) 735-8202, or the Lincolnton/Lincoln County CrimeStoppers at (704) 736-8909.

The search for Heafner and the eight-month-old is ongoing.
